Reasons to bring your business to Indiana: 

  Indiana ended 2013 with a total of 42,600 private sector jobs added for the year.

  Indiana’s labor force growth of 33,000 in 2013 was the 6th highest in the nation. 

  The decrease in Indiana’s unemployment rate in December (-0.4%) was the 6th largest drop in the U.S.

  Over the past year, Indiana’s unemployment rate declined 1.4%, which is the 7th largest decrease in the nation.

  The Hoosier State ranks 5th in the nation in percentage of private sector job growth (9.3%) and 11th in total private sector jobs added (217,100) since July 2009, the low point of employment in Indiana.

  Indiana ranks 2nd in the nation in number of manufacturing jobs added (63,300) and 3rd in percentage of growth (14.8%) since July 2009.

  The Hoosier State continues to have the highest percentage of manufacturing jobs as a portion of the private sector in the United States. 

  Over the past year, Indiana has added the 8th most Trade, Transportation & Utilities jobs in U.S. (17,800) at a rate (3.1%) that is 6rd best in the nation.

  Since the low point of employment in July 2009, Indiana has added 43,900 Trade, Transportation and Utilities jobs, which ranks 8th in the nation, at an 8.0% rate of growth, which is 7th in the nation.

  Over the past year, Indiana’s growth in the Professional & Business Services sector (4.6%) ranks 6th in the U.S.

Since July 2009, the low point of employment in the state, Indiana’s rate of growth in Professional & Business Services ranks 4th in the nation.

 

Tax Credits

The Primary tax credit available is the Economic Development for a Growing Economy Tax Credit (EDGE). This credit is available from the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. The Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) is a refundable tax credit program rewarding companies for creating jobs and contributing to the growth of Indiana’s economy. EDGE credits are calculated as a percentage of payroll tax withholding for net new Indiana jobs. EDGE credits may be awarded for a period of up to 10 years.
Headquarters Relocation Tax Credit When a business relocates its corporate headquarters (the location of the principal office of executives) to Indiana, it is entitled to a credit against its state tax liability equal to half of the costs incurred in relocating the headquarters. A company must have worldwide annual revenue of at least $100 million to qualify.

Hoosier Business Investment Tax Credit (HBITC). This program encourages capital investment in Indiana by providing a credit against a company’s Indiana tax liability. The credit amount is based on a company’s qualified capital investment with the final credit amount determined by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation based on an analysis of the economic benefits of the proposed investment.

Infrastructure Improvements

The State of Indiana has the Industrial Development Grant Fund and the Industrial Development Infrastructure Program available to assist with the infrastructure needs of your project.

Skills Enhancement Fund

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation can has grants available for the initial start-up training of new Indiana residents hired during the first two years of a facility’s operation. Thereafter, grants for training of additional new workers and for the retraining of existing workers are available on a two-year basis. Each grant is limited to a maximum of 50% of the total training budget for your company. Subsequent training grants are generally limited to no more than $200,000 per company every two years.

Work Keys

The Indiana Department of Workforce Development offers grants to companies for the Work Key program. Work Keys measures the comprehensive employability skills such as reading, math, listening, teamwork, etc. This program has helped companies to find the right work force to meet their specific workforce needs. In addition, funding is available to assist with training needs identified through the assessment.
